With just a few hours left before the trade deadline, several players from the Canadiens, such as Jake Allen, David Savard, and Tanner Pearson, are anxiously awaiting a final verdict regarding their future within the Montreal organization.

Although Kent Hughes is hesitant to trade veteran David Savard, he is undoubtedly the player attracting the most attention in the Tricolore, especially since Chris Tanev packed his bags for Dallas. However, according to information reported by Marc Antoine Godin, another team's defender could also be changing addresses by Friday.
Indeed, on the "Tellement Hockey" podcast by Radio-Canada, the journalist added Johnathan Kovacevic to the list of potential trade candidates. He believes that number 26 has some value in the trade market and could represent an interesting option for a team looking for depth in the blue line.
« My answer would be Johnathan Kovacevic... There are teams that need help on defense and who do not have space under the salary cap. Getting a player who can act as a sixth or seventh defender, who is under contract next year... Kovacevic has value. » - Marc-Antoine Godin

At 26 years old, the defenseman has provided proud services to the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge since his arrival in the organization last year. Without being "flashy" on the ice, he has established himself as an excellent sixth or seventh defender, known for his very effective style of play in defensive territory.
Moreover, the player earns a modest salary of $766,667 until 2024-2025, which could increase the interest of some general managers towards him. As several teams contending for top honors no longer have much room under the salary cap, Kovacevic could prove to be an affordable option for the performance he offers game after game.
In 51 games this season, the Hamilton-born defender has accumulated six goals and three assists (nine points). He also impressed last year with a haul of 15 points in 77 games, despite his limited role in Martin St-Louis' lineup.
It remains to be seen if Kent Hughes will wish to add a late draft pick to free up a spot for Logan Mailloux or David Reinbacher for next season or keep him due to the current lack of experience on the right side of the defense.
