The name of Trevor Zegras has been mentioned in various trade rumors over the past few months, especially after he had to wait until training camp to finally get a three-season contract extension with the Ducks.

Although many believed that this new agreement would quell speculations about his future in Anaheim, the opposite is currently happening. Indeed, the 22-year-old forward is having a miserable season with a meager harvest of 7 points in 20 games, thus casting doubt on his future with the Californian organization.
Several observers even claim that he could be available on the trade market. However, in the last few hours, a major turnaround has occurred through Darren Dreger, who has openly admitted that the possibility of seeing the talented center being traded is very real.
Many fans would like to see Kent Hughes complete a trade with the Ducks so that Cole Caufield's good friend could land in Montreal. In this regard, the
insider indicated that the General Manager of the Tricolore should, at the very least, contact his counterpart Pat Verbeek to see if a trade could benefit both teams.
"If you're the Montreal Canadiens, why not inquire about a trade? Why not check if there's a possible deal?

There are probably 25 other teams that will do the same. [...]

But the possibility of a trade involving Zegras is very real." - Darren Dreger

This is indeed interesting!
It is therefore quite plausible that the 9th overall pick in 2019 could change addresses in the near future. However, Darren Dreger mentioned that this type of transaction is more likely to happen in the summer than during the regular season.
However, he continued by saying that Trevor Zegras is not untouchable with the Ducks and that the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge should inquire about the price to pay for his acquisition.
"I know that the Anaheim Ducks have at least tested the market [to trade Zegras]. He is definitely not untouchable.

If someone takes the lead, between now and the trade deadline, I don't see why Pat Verbeek wouldn't make this trade.

As I said, if you're the Montreal Canadiens, why wouldn't you look if there's a possible deal?" - Via TSN 690

In light of this new information, it would not be surprising if the CH's General Manager, Kent Hughes, makes a call to Pat Verbeek to feel out the ground concerning a potential trade involving the enigmatic Trevor Zegras.
Knowing that the Ducks have just lost Jamie Drysdale, could the Montreal executive use its surplus of defensemen as well as draft picks to add a top forward to its lineup?
One thing is certain, this will be a case to watch closely!
