In his latest podcast, Arpon Basu discussed a trade that Kent Hughes is likely to announce during the 2024 draft.
The Athletic journalist is firmly convinced that the Canadiens will trade the 2024 first-round pick from the Winnipeg Jets, acquired in the Sean Monahan deal earlier in the season.
Basu believes this pick will be traded to immediately bolster the team for the upcoming season, potentially acquiring players like Martin Necas, Trevor Zegras, or Peyton Krebs.
"I would be extremely surprised if the Canadiens still have their first-round pick from the Winnipeg Jets by the end of the first round," said Arpon Basu.
This pick, likely to be between the 24th and 27th overall in the first round, will be highly sought after on the NHL trade market, and there's a strong chance it will be traded.
It could be paired with a defenseman like Jordan Harris or Justin Barron, but that remains to be seen.
