In the NHL, Kent Hughes is known as a very active general manager on the trade market. He is constantly in talks with his counterparts to seize any opportunity that could be beneficial for the Montreal Canadiens.

Regarding a possible upcoming trade, a major trade rumor between the Canadiens and the Vancouver Canucks has recently emerged.
As is often the case with rumors, this one should be taken with caution. However, NHL Trade Rumors has previously announced some trade rumors that have materialized, lending credibility to this information.
According to these rumors, up to six players could be traded between the two teams.
Here is the outline of the rumor:
To Montreal
Andrei Kuzmenko
Nils Hoglander
2024 3rd round pick

To Vancouver
Sean Monahan
Johnathan Kovacevic
2025 2nd round pick

At first glance, the Canadiens would be trading a future free agent in Monahan and a "surplus" on defense with Kovacevic, to acquire two offensive players.
Although Kuzmenko's current performance in Vancouver is below expectations with eight goals and 19 points in 31 games this season, it is worth remembering that he shone brightly last year with 39 goals and 74 points.
At 27 years old, this Russian forward could be a great catch for the Canadiens' top-6. The Canucks have clearly signaled that he is available for a trade, thus seeking to free up salary cap space. He is under contract for another season at $5.5 million annually.
In addition to Kuzmenko, the Canadiens are looking to acquire Nils Hoglander, a promising 23-year-old Swedish talent. Hoglander shows promising signs with 10 goals and 15 points in 34 games, although he has a relatively limited average playing time of 11 minutes per game. A change of environment could give him the chance to unleash his full potential.
Again, this is a trade rumor that should be taken lightly. However, given the magnitude of this speculation, it is interesting to evaluate its potential impact from the Canadiens' perspective.
This will certainly be a file to follow closely until the trade deadline.
