MAJOR: Player From the 2018 WJC Scandal to Face Double the Prison TIme

Published February 2, 2024 at 2:06 PM

The last few days have been impactful across the NHL as we learned the names of five players who have been charged in connection with the 2018 Team Canada junior scandal.

The players will now have to defend themselves against multiple very serious charges.

One of the five players faces an additional charge

However, as just revealed by journalist Rick Westhead, one player among the five has received an additional charge compared to the others, namely Michael McLeod of the New Jersey Devils.

He faces two charges related to this damning case, while the four other players face the same charges. McLeod will also have to defend himself for "participation in the offense."

New: Court documents obtained by @TSN_Sports and @CTVNationalNews confirm that Dillon Dube, Alex Formenton, Carter Hart, Michael McLeod, and Cal Foote have all been charged with s***** a*****.

"Dillon Dube, around June 19, 2018, in the city of London, in the Southwest region, committed a s***** a***** against E.M., contrary to section 271 of the Criminal Code of Canada."

The document repeats the same allegation against each of the other four players and indicates that McLeod also faces an additional charge for "having participated in the offense."

All players have stated that they will plead not guilty, and the allegations against them have not been tested in court.

The players were arrested on January 26, and their next court appearance is set for February 5, according to the documents.

From what can be understood from this significant development, McLeod had an additional involvement in the crime that was allegedly committed. Although it does not seem very clear at the moment, he appears to be in more trouble than the other four.

It's worth mentioning that an important press conference by the London police is scheduled for next Monday on this matter.
