Following the recent transaction, an unexpected event shakes both the Montreal Canadiens and the New Jersey Devils.

The trade between the Devils and the Calgary Flames, announced yesterday, directly impacts Kent Hughes and the Canadiens.
The acquisition of talented goalie Jacob Markstrom by the Devils is bad news for the Canadiens. This move relegates Jake Allen to the backup role, resulting in the anticipated loss of a second-round draft pick for Montreal.
Furthermore, unforeseen developments complicate matters. The first-round pick acquired from Calgary, potentially advantageous following the Sean Monahan trade in August 2022, now appears likely to convert into a much less favorable selection, possibly to the Florida Panthers.
Details on these developments were provided by Alex Jodoin, highlighting additional challenges facing the Canadiens in their near-term planning.
"In a trade that doesn't involve the Tricolore, we've been had twice:

Calgary's 1st-round pick now likely becomes Florida's 1st-round pick, so it will be a very late first-round pick.

Jake Allen definitely won't play 40 games next year, so the Tricolore loses a 2nd-round pick.

A beautiful day!" - Alex Jodoin
