The Montreal Canadiens will have the opportunity to pick 5th overall in the NHL draft for the second consecutive year.

The Athletic is currently conducting simulated drafts in anticipation of this traditional NHL event scheduled for late June in Las Vegas.
As you know, the Habs have two first-round picks: 5th overall, and also the 26th selection, courtesy of the Jets in the trade that brought Sean Monahan to Winnipeg.
The three prospect experts from The Athletic have chosen two forwards for the Canadiens with their two first-round picks.
At 26th overall, The Athletic sees Quebec-born Sacha Boisvert, who plays in the United States, being selected by Kent Hughes and his team. Canadiens fans would be very pleased to see such a scenario unfold!
However, it's safe to say that fans of the Habs might be somewhat disappointed to see Berkly Catton drafted at 5th overall, ahead of Cayden Lindstrom and Tij Iginla.
Catton is highly talented, but his small stature might deter some NHL teams, especially considering that the Canadiens already have several small forwards in their lineup.
Nevertheless, Catton could potentially become one of the top offensive players in this 2024 draft class. It's something to consider carefully!
