During a recent appearance on Pierre LeBrun's podcast, the General Manager of the Montreal Canadiens, Kent Hughes, made several interesting statements regarding his organization.

In addition to discussing some potential upcoming trades, notably concerning Jake Allen, the Canadiens' GM also addressed a point that has gone unnoticed in the media but has caught the attention of fans.

Concerning Statement from Kent Hughes

In relation to the club's significant upcoming draft, with another possible top 10 pick, Hughes revealed the following:
Kent Hughes on the @GotYerBackPod said that after the Hlinka this summer, his scouts were not "enthused" by the top players in the 2024 draft, but they have been more excited since January.

Who or what could he be referring to?"

This is a surprising and major revelation from Hughes about the next NHL draft class.
The Hlinka-Gretzky, which is the first major event of the year for future prospects of the NHL taking place at the beginning of August, is a highly regarded tournament by teams.
It is often at this time that scouts draw up an initial official list for the draft several months later.
In this year's edition, where some young talents expected to be named in the top 10 of the 2024 class played, Hughes revealed that the CH scouts were not at all "enthused" by what they saw.
Yet, for Canada, there were Berkly Catton, Cayden Lindstrom, Zayne Parekh, and Sam Dickinson, all predicted to be selected very early in the first round.
A youngster like Catton even finished the tournament with eight goals and 10 points in just five games. He was also the captain of the Canadian team.
Hearing Hughes's comments on the team's vision for a high-caliber prospect with elite potential like Catton is concerning for Canadiens fans. This year in the WHL, Catton has totaled 40 goals and 87 points in 53 games.
Fortunately, the GM added that since January, there has been a different wind regarding the next cohort, even indicating that the scouts are now much more enchanted.
However, given that the CH absolutely needs to bet on the best offensive talent available to help the club's top 6, this statement from Hughes worries fans who hope to see a future star player arrive in Montreal.
