Drafting errors have sunk the Canadiens in recent years

Fans quickly think of 2018. The Habs chose Jesperi Kotkaniemi over Brady Tkachuk and Quinn Hughes.

"The Athletic" has traced the worst draft mistakes of each NHL franchise. For the Canadiens, this includes the Finnish player from the Hurricanes, as well as Ryan Poehling in 2017.

Poehling was the team's first pick seven years ago but never managed to establish himself with the Canadiens, even after scoring 3 goals in his first game in Montreal.

Looking at this list, it's clear that the Canadiens' blunders at the annual NHL draft have severely hindered the organization's progress.
