Danny Briere and the Montreal Canadiens: major information emerges
An astonishing revelation has just come to light regarding Daniel Brière and his involvement in the race for the General Manager position of the Montreal Canadiens, currently held by Kent Hughes.
As our colleague William Nadeau from Habs et LNH recently reported, it seems that the current General Manager of the Philadelphia Flyers was the finalist for Hughes as successor to Marc Bergevin with the Canadiens.
During an appearance on RDS, the host of Survivor Québec and close friend of Brière, Patrice Bélanger, revealed some very interesting information regarding the race for the CH's direction in 2022.
"I would have liked it (if he had been the GM of the CH), because it would have meant that my buddy would have been closer. We would have spent beautiful evenings together more often. I would have known stuff and you would have invited me more often (jokingly). What I find fun is that he was considered for a long time in the process and that he really came close to becoming the GM of the Canadiens. I think it was a formative experience for him, to ultimately end up where he is with the Flyers." - Patrice Bélanger
The official RDS account even added by mentioning this:
"Daniel Brière was very seriously considered for the position of GM of the Canadiens at the time!" - RDS
Now, two years later, and since Brière's start with the Flyers, it must be admitted that the Canadiens had two very high-quality candidates on the table for the team's rebuild.
The choice ultimately fell on Hughes, who was an excellent choice, but it remains interesting to know that Brière could also have done great things at the helm of the CH.
Let's remember that it was the Flyers who drafted a certain Matvei Michkov last summer, a name that was making a lot of noise in Montreal. I'm just saying!
