Jonathan Drouin's six-season journey with the Montreal Canadiens has been a real rollercoaster for him.

After being welcomed as a hero upon his arrival in Montreal following a significant trade by Marc Bergevin, the Quebecois player's performance never met the expectations set upon his acquisition.
His season with the Tampa Bay Lightning, before the trade, hinted at a promising future. Moreover, now that he is with the Colorado Avalanche, after a poor start to the season, Drouin has been on fire lately, totaling 18 points in 23 games.
Many wonder why it never really worked for him when he was wearing the Canadiens' uniform, and we finally have an answer to this question that confirms the rumors about him when he was in Montreal.
During his appearance on the podcast "Sortie de zone," the former Canadiens' goaltending coach, Stéphane Waite, openly admitted that he was unable to perform due to the pressure of the market.
"In his last year in Montreal, Waite saw that Jo was worried. He was very concerned with his production and what was being said about him in the media. Athletes shouldn't read or listen to what journalists write or say, but sometimes, it's stronger than us. And people are so passionate in Montreal that it's hard to ignore them..."

This reveals a lot about what the native of Ste-Agathe-des-Monts had to cope with during his time with the CH. This is not at all a disavowal of Jonathan, he is an excellent hockey player who was not able to take on such a big role, especially in a Francophone market.
Unfortunately, there was not much depth in the team to take this burden off his shoulders, whereas in Colorado, he is far from being the face of the organization, playing in the shadow of Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, and Cale Makar.
It's an ideal situation for him there, and we better understand why it didn't work out as hoped with the Canadiens. He is now fully flourishing with the Avalanche, and we are very happy for him.
