Although his selection in the fifth spot of last year's draft did not unanimously win over fans, David Reinbacher clearly possesses the skills necessary to become a great defender in the NHL. Indeed, there is no doubt that he will play a major role in Montreal's defensive brigade for many years to come.

Moreover, according to recently reported information, numerous general managers, including Barry Trotz of the Predators and Daniel Brière of the Flyers, attempted to acquire the Canadiens' first-round pick in 2023 to draft him. Both GMs notably made very interesting offers to Kent Hughes to acquire the Austrian defender, demonstrating that he is destined for a very promising future in the Bettman circuit.
However, after an excellent season in the Swiss elite league last season (22 points in 46 games), David Reinbacher encountered some difficulties this year, simply not being a shadow of himself. The defender reportedly confirmed to Arpon Basu that he was trying to do too much, thus deviating from his own style of play and identity.
Nevertheless, despite two coaching changes in recent months, the defender seems to have finally found a way to forget the distractions, returning to his good old habits. He notably accumulated five assists over his last five games, bringing his total to 11 points in 25 games this season.
"David Reinbacher faced adversity this season with an injury and two coaching changes. A tougher start to the season!

But he seems to be quietly getting back on track over 200 feet. Offensively, he has collected 5 points in his last 6 games. And he is the top scorer among the defenders of his club!

I would like to see him in Laval by the end of the season but I'm taking it easy!" - Marc-Olivier Beaudoin

Wow! What great news for the Tricolore prospect!
If HC Kloten had only won two consecutive games since the beginning of the 2023-2024 campaign, Reinbacher's team has now achieved five consecutive victories, demonstrating the defender's importance in the team's success. It is really encouraging to see the 19-year-old progress in this way and it is certainly very promising for the future.
However, despite the recent winning streak, HC Kloten is 13 points away from a playoff spot, suggesting that the defender's season could end as early as the beginning of March. If this is the case, we can potentially envision a scenario where the Austrian would make the jump to North America this year, potentially joining the Montreal Canadiens or the Laval Rocket.
One thing is certain, it will be very interesting to see Kent Hughes's plan for his young defender.
