During a recent Montreal Canadiens practice at the CN Sports Complex, a pleasant surprise was noticed on the ice. Among the players and Development Director Adam Nicholas, there was an unexpected participant.
Fans were curious about the identity of this player, and journalist Anthony Martineau provided the answer. It turned out to be Jeff Gorton's son, Jack Gorton, who plays for Boston University in the American collegiate ranks.
In his first season with the NCAA, the 21-year-old forward and teammate of Lane Hutson hasn't played a single game so far this season. At 6'3" and 205 pounds, he scored 17 goals and added 28 assists (45 points) in 54 games with the Victoria Grizzlies in the BCHL last year.
While it seems highly unlikely that the Canadiens would offer him a contract, given his apparent skill level and the fact that he hasn't played in the NCAA yet, Jack Gorton could be an interesting acquisition for the Laval Rocket or even the Trois-Rivières Lions in the ECHL. This will certainly be a situation to watch in the coming months.
