Playing in his very first season in the professional ranks, Montreal Canadiens prospect Logan Mailloux has dazzled many observers with his excellent performances this year.

Indeed, while many fans had expressed some doubts about his effectiveness in defensive territory, the 20-year-old defenseman clearly demonstrated that he was capable of improving this aspect of the game, as his plus/minus improved throughout the season.
Moreover, the number 24 of the Laval Rocket is simply dominant offensively. Possessing a devastating wrist shot and extraordinary vision, Logan Mailloux has accumulated an impressive total of 14 goals and 29 assists (43 points) in 66 games so far this year.
He notably made history with the Rocket, becoming the first defenseman to reach the 14-goal mark in a single season, thus surpassing the record of 13 goals set by Eric Gélinas, in 2017-2018.
Surprisingly, despite a sensational first season, Logan Mailloux has not had the opportunity to get a call-up to the big club, even though Martin St-Louis' defensive squad has been hit by numerous injuries. This is still hard to understand, especially when we see that defensemen like Gustav Lindstrom and Mattias Norlinder were prioritized over him.
In this regard, Maxime Truman had recently indicated that, according to his information, the Montreal Canadiens would like to give him a chance to play some NHL games by the end of the season. However, knowing that there are only eight games left on the schedule and that the Rocket is still in the midst of a playoff race, Logan Mailloux might have to wait before making his debut in the NHL.
However, the situation could be completely different during the 2024-2025 campaign. Indeed, during a recent appearance on L'Antichambre, analyst Gaston Therrien made a major statement, mentioning that the 6-foot-3 giant should play the entire season in Montreal. According to him, the organization must absolutely prepare for the future as David Savard will be playing the last year of his contract.
He believes that his place in Martin St-Louis' lineup is confirmed, having surpassed Justin Barron in the team's hierarchy. He is convinced that Logan Mailloux could start the year on the third defensive pair alongside Jayden Struble, while also getting some minutes on the second power-play unit.
"I think Mailloux will play the entire season in Montreal next year" - Gaston Therrien

Certainly, the expectations of the fans will be enormous towards the defenseman at the next training camp, who undoubtedly has all the qualities to establish himself as a genuine NHL caliber defenseman as early as next season. After all, he performed so well in the AHL that he certainly deserves a chance to prove himself with the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge.
Given the lack of depth on the right side of the defense, Kent Hughes could decide to give a full year in the American League to David Reinbacher, thus offering a well-deserved promotion to Logan Mailloux.
This will undoubtedly be a very important season for the young man, who has a very promising future ahead of him. We strongly hope that he will be able to make the jump to the NHL next year, thus proving to his detractors that he will be a crucial member of the organization in the years to come.
