Former Top-10 Pick to Leave the Canadiens and Sign in Europe? It Appears to Be the Likely Scenario for 2017 7th Overall Pick Lias Andersson

In the last few hours, some rather unexpected news surfaced on social media. Indeed, according to European journalist Johan Svensson and the site SportExpressen, Laval Rocket forward Lias Andersson could leave the organization to play in his home country next year.
"According to Johan Svensson and the site SportExpressen, Davos is among the teams looking to add Laval Rocket forward Lias Andersson to their lineup for next season.
There is a lot of interest from the SHL, but it's probably Davos who would pay the most, and who wouldn't want to play in that arena?" - Patrik Bexell
Recall that the seventh overall pick in the 2017 draft signed a one-year deal with the Canadiens last summer, becoming a free agent at the end of this campaign.
Knowing he will be free to sign with the team of his choice in July, it wouldn't be surprising if Andersson packed his bags for Europe in the coming months, especially since he has not been able to secure a real opportunity to prove himself in the NHL since his time with the Kings in 2021-2022.
However, if this eventuality were to materialize, it would be a significant loss for the Blue-White-Red's farm team. The 25-year-old center is currently leading the team in scoring with 17 goals in 41 games, having also amassed 17 assists.
Yet, one could understand his decision to take such a step, especially since, despite his strong performances in the American League, he has never been called up to the major club this year. It's somewhat strange that Kent Hughes did not want to give him a chance, especially considering the numerous injuries that have affected the CH's attack this season.
The management even gave opportunities to players like Mitchell Stephens and Lucas Condotta before him, showing that he was clearly not part of the long-term plans of the organization.
Certainly, this will be a case to watch closely in the coming months, but everything seems to indicate that Lias Andersson could leave the Canadiens soon.
At 25 years old, he is a former first-round pick, notably selected by Jeff Gorton during his tenure with the Rangers. Over his last two years in the AHL, the forward has tallied an impressive total of 48 goals and 45 assists (93 points) in 108 games.
However, his NHL tally stands at a modest 17 points in 110 games.
Do you think the Montreal Canadiens should offer him a contract extension to retain his services for 2024-2025?
